Nokia announced a successful test of Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA), allowing roaming of both voice and data from a live cellular network to a wireless local area network and back again.
Now if only carriers will allow these dual devices to work as promised instead of crippling them.

Although carriers could wind up losing some revenue if Wi-Fi users shift a large number of minutes off their networks, some see the new phones as an opportunity to cement the cell phone as a true replacement for traditional wired phone service.
