After many casual web searches over the last few months, I finally figured out how to modify my Typepad blog template to make the columns wider and decrease the line spacing.
I’m surprised that this kind of information is so hard to find through a Google or Yahoo search (almost as hard as finding an unbiased review of an electronic product). I eventually found it by clicking on every link in the ‘Design’ section. Of course, it would help if Typepad had a more intuitive interface and a better help section.
Anyway, being a product manager means I couldn’t help but document it. Here’s the flow:

OK, this is helpful — but do you have any ideas if you want a center column wider than 500 pixels?
In my blog, I have a 3-column layout: two 200-pixel side columns and a 500-pixel center column. I only have a 12-inch monitor, and that leaves about an inch of blank space on either side — and my center column looks uncomfortably small.
If I specify “fluid” for the center column, that doesn’t seem to change anything.
Is there a way to make the width of the overall page layout fluid, or at least wider than 900 pixels? If so, then I’d be happy with just specifying the sidebars’ width and leaving the center column fluid.
Any ideas?
